About

Made by someone who was stuck too.

I'm Wayne. I'm from the world of building and architecture, and I taught myself guitar — the slow way. Years of barely moving forward. I knew my chords, I could play along to songs, and I could not for the life of me turn any of it into music of my own. Nobody was there to tell me what I was missing, so I didn't know. That's the trap of teaching yourself: you don't know what you don't know.

Then work took over, and the guitar went away for far too long.

The penny drops

When I finally came back to it, something was different — I'd spent a career learning to see systems, and this time I went looking for one. And there it was, hiding in plain sight: keys. Which chords belong together, and why. It's a small idea, learnable in an afternoon, and it had cost me years by staying invisible. I remember thinking: something that just handed me real progressions — real chords, in a real key, ready to play — would have saved me all that time.

So I built it.

How it's made

Every one of the 765 chord shapes in Tone Logic has been played and graded by my own hands, one by one, 1 to 5, for how it really sits under the fingers. Not scraped from a database — played. If a shape asks for a stretch a real hand can't make, it isn't in there. That's slow work, and I think the slowness is the point: going patiently is how I found the simpler way through, and the app is built out of that patience.

The principle underneath everything: fun and playable beats clever and complex. You play first. The theory arrives through your hands, never as homework.

Who it's for

Since the penny dropped I've helped a handful of stuck players — friends, neighbours — out of the same place I was, and it's the same wall every time: plenty of chords, no way to make them into music. Tone Logic is for exactly that player. I'm still learning; anyone honest about music is. But the way out of stuck? That, I know first-hand.

If you're at the wall, come and play. The free version is a real practice tool — see for yourself.
